Tom Barrett, More Extreme than Jim Doyle on Abortion

MADISON—With two fundraisers with pro-abortion group Planned Parenthood and special guest Jim Doyle this week, Tom Barrett is placing himself directly in line to pick up where Doyle left off—and far outside the mainstream of Wisconsin values.

The roadmap to Jim Doyle’s third term is pretty simple, said Republican Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Mark Jefferson: agree with Jim Doyle’s policies, and make friends with Jim Doyle’s special interest buddies.

“More of the same just isn’t going to cut it in Wisconsin,” Jefferson said. “We need a change, but Tom Barrett is too busy promising the world to the special interests to bother telling us how he would be any different.”

Barrett’s record clearly shows him as an extremist on abortion, and Wisconsin deserves to know the answer to several troubling questions, including:

  • Does Tom Barrett still support forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions? (HR 2518, Vote 307 (6/30/1993))
  • Does Tom Barrett still oppose banning late-term abortions (HR 4965, Roll Call 343 (7/24/2002))?
  • Is Tom Barrett still against notifying parents if their child had an abortion (HR 670, Vote 106 (3/25/1993)?

“It’s no wonder why the pro-abortion crowd is so excited about Tom Barrett,” Jefferson said. “Doyle was given the Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin lifetime achievement award recipient, but the way they’re lining up behind him, Planned Parenthood might just give Barrett the same award before the election even takes place.”
