Barrett/ Doyle/Talgo No-Bid Deal Reeks of Cronyism
MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin companies like Super Steel in Milwaukee were shut out of a bidding process that would have meant private sector jobs, according to Super Steel president Fred Luber and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker.
“The sweetheart deals of the Doyle Administration are only going to continue under Tom Barrett,” according to Mark Jefferson, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. “While Spanish firms win, Wisconsin companies struggle–but as long as it helps Democrats like Jim Doyle and Tom Barrett stay in power, they’re willing to sell out Wisconsin workers.”
Proving the City of Milwaukee now wants to cover the back of Mayor Barrett on the issue, former Barrett campaign spokesman Jeff Flemming appears now to be a taxpayer-funded campaign lackey for Barrett, based on the contact information for a biased “fact-sheet” released earlier today by the City.
Back when Tom the Taxer first announced he was running for office, Fleming helped cover up Barrett’s pledge to raise taxes at the state level, as Barrett has done in the City and in Congress:
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on November 15, 2010: Campaign spokesman Jeff Fleming said Barrett told him the change was "stylistic, not substantive." Fleming said Barrett wants a fair tax policy without raising state taxes. But Fleming stopped short of pledging Barrett would run on the same kind of no-new-taxes platform as Walker.
“Higher taxes, fewer jobs, and sweetheart deals are all Wisconsin taxpayers can expect from Mayor Barrett as he runs for Jim Doyle’s third term,” Jefferson said. “When Wisconsin jobs are on the line, voters will side with proven reformers with a track-record of job creation.”
