Statement on Recall Election Results
Brad Courtney, Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, issued the following statement today:
“I congratulate Republicans Kim Simac and Jonathan Steitz for mounting well-fought challenges against entrenched Democrat Senators with a combined 30 years in office, and records of driving up deficits and chasing thousands of jobs out of our state. The amount of support received by these political newcomers should send a message to all current and future elected officials in this state: if you abandon your constituents and refuse to represent their interests in Madison, there will be significant backlash. Leaving the state at the behest of unions and special interest groups was completely unacceptable and set a terribly destructive precedent – these recall elections should give pause to any official of either party who considers using the same outrageous tactic in the future.
“Wisconsin now emerges from this recall election season with a united Republican majority who has beaten off an attack from national unions and special interests and emerged steadfastly committed to carrying forward a bold job creation agenda. With almost 40,000 new jobs, a balanced budget, and school districts across the state saving millions, Wisconsin is in a great position for continued growth with a Republican majority willing to put the needs of middle-class families ahead of the demands of union bosses.”
