[Madison, Wis.] – While Ashland City Council member Kelly Westlund announced her run for Congress this week, she hasn’t shied away from her liberal agenda: Last night, Westlund again voted for another tax increase on her constituents with the Ashland City Council budget.
“For the third year in a row Kelly Westlund voted to increase taxes, and residents of the 7th Congressional District should take note,” said Jesse Dougherty, Press Secretary of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. “Rather than work to make government live within its means, just like families do every day, she increased taxes and spending once again.”
The City of Ashland did not raise the property tax rate in the two annual budgets prior to Westlund’s appointment to the Council. In addition, Westlund has been adamantly against the iron ore mine in Northern Wisconsin, which will create thousands of needed jobs for the middle class.
“Westlund’s viewpoints are out of touch and would only mean a blank check for Barack Obama’s disastrous policies,” continued Dougherty. “Along with staunch opposition to job creation in her own backyard, Westlund’s tax-and-spend habits don’t fall in line with the voters of her district.”
